Coronavirus (COVID-19) Testing At American Urgent Care

covid 19 testing near me
A diagnostic test can determine whether you currently have a coronavirus infection and whether you should take precautions such as quarantine or isolation. As we unite in our efforts to combat Covid-19, let us acknowledge the immense dedication of frontline medical workers who have tirelessly fought to save lives, often at the cost of their own. Many have tragically lost their lives, while others have put their families at risk to serve humanity. At American Urgent Care, we embrace the same spirit of selfless service as we fulfil our mission: to provide convenient, and highly accurate tests to all those who require them, ensuring a 99% accuracy rate.

COVID-19 testing is available at American Urgent Care for individuals exhibiting coronavirus-like symptoms and those without symptoms who meet specific testing criteria. Our healthcare providers will conduct a thorough evaluation of your medical history, and current symptoms, and perform an examination before recommending a test.

Who is eligible for testing?

If you are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19, it is important to discuss testing with your healthcare provider. Older adults and individuals with underlying medical conditions may face a higher risk of severe complications from the virus. Some surgeons may also require a negative COVID-19 test before certain elective surgical procedures, so it is advisable to consult with your surgeon regarding their specific requirements.

What to expect during a COVID-19 test?

For rapid testing, the sample is collected on-site, and you will receive your results before leaving our facility. In cases where confirmatory testing is needed, our providers will carefully package the samples according to the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These samples are then shipped to a laboratory for further analysis. Our healthcare providers and trained clinical staff take necessary precautions by wearing protective clothing, masks, and face shields during the sample collection process.

The sample is usually collected from the nose, although in some cases, it may be obtained from the back of the throat, similar to a strep test. While this process may cause mild discomfort, it is a quick procedure, typically lasting only a few seconds. Once the samples are packaged, they are sent to a laboratory where they are tested for the presence of the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19.

The test results will be disclosed to you by our provider, and in accordance with state requirements, the results may also be reported to the relevant public health authorities.

Types of COVID-19 Tests available:

American Urgent Care offers two types of COVID-19 tests:

Rapid Test: This test provides results within minutes, allowing for immediate determination of your COVID-19 status.

Send-out Test: The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test is considered the gold standard in COVID-19 testing due to its high reliability. These samples are sent to our partner reference labs for processing, and the results are reported accordingly.

During your visit, our American Urgent Care provider will assess your situation and determine the most appropriate test based on your symptoms and test availability. If a rapid test is recommended, our provider will guide you on the specific type of test to be administered, if multiple options are available.

It is our commitment at American Urgent Care to provide accurate and timely COVID-19 testing, ensuring the well-being of our patients and the community.

What is the cost of a COVID test?

For individuals without insurance coverage, American Urgent Care charges between $135 and $200 for the medical evaluation, along with an additional $100 for the COVID test. The exact price may vary based on the location of the centre, the provider's evaluation, and the reason for your visit.

COVID-19 test results

Rapid tests typically provide results within 5 to 13 minutes, allowing you to receive your results before leaving the facility.

If you undergo a non-rapid test and your sample is sent to one of our partner outside lab companies, you can expect your COVID-19 test results to be available within 1 to 3 days. However, during periods of high demand or surges, the lab turnaround time may exceed this timeframe.

What to bring

Please bring your driving licence and insurance card, if applicable. If you have received an order from a healthcare provider to be tested, it is beneficial to bring that as well, although it is not mandatory.
